FKF to give directions on new League name


A day after the KPL and East African Breweries announced a sponsorship deal that would see the local league renamed to Tusker Premier League, Football Kenya federation through chairman Sam Nyamweya has come out to clarify that the proposal to change the league name is a matter that will have to be deliberated upon by the governing body in collaboration with all the stakeholders including KPL and the sponsors before a new name is adopted.

Nyamweya who is said to have been part of the partnership talks has welcomed the sponsorship that is worth 170 Million shillings saying, “This is a positive step towards the growth of Kenyan soccer and we welcome it.”

The chairman however says : "Football Kenya Federation herby wishes to clarify that as per the constitution the legal name of the country’s top league is FKF PREMIER LEAGUE and the federation will soon give direction on the actual name of the league arising from the signing of the title sponsorship".

“The new football constitution which is in the implementation phase clearly states that the top league in Kenya shall be named FKF Premier League.”

Most Kenyans have also welcomed the move that is seen to be a new dawn for Kenyan soccer with many already starting to adopt the name Tusker Premier League (TPL).The partnership is however yet to be officially unveiled.
